The interdenominational Saltlight Center is named after the words that Jesus used to encourage his followers in the Sermon on the Mount.
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? ... You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Matthew 5:13-16
Saltlight Center's goal is to provide temporary, safe shelter this winter for Gwinnett County women and children.
It is partnering with Hindsight 20/20, Inc., which provides transitional housing for single, homeless addicts in recovery. Hindsight agreed to secure space to dedicate to women and children in need of overnight housing.
The Saltlight/Hindsight 20/20 project hopes to model itself after effective organizations, including Gwinnett County Food Co-Ops that provide food around the county; the Lazarus Project which provides meals in Lawrenceville; and Family Promise, Rainbow Village, UNITE! Gwinnett and others that provide transitional housing to the homeless.
