Dear SaltLight Center Supporter
We are excited and so thankful to report on the success of the first winter emergency shelter for women & children in Gwinnett County. Opportunities for the ‘Body of Christ’ to meet the immediate needs of homeless women and children have been many and the doors to the shelter were opened on March 1st and stayed open for a total of 10 weeks! During this amazing time, we served a total of 36 individuals (14 women and 22 children). These guests were able to receive shelter, a meal and a bath along with rest and hope for tomorrow.
None of this would have been possible without God’s clear direction and help. Our Steering team is so thankful that God used so many of you to meet the needs of the guests and the center. Over 60 volunteers completed the SaltLight Center orientation and over half were able to serve. Donations of $5000 from 5 different congregations and 10 individuals helped meet the costs of this program along with many in-kind donations of furnishings, office supplies and food. God provided in amazing ways to meet needs and we thank Him for it!
We are also thankful for the leadership and heart of our Center Director, Wanda Jackson. Many hours were dedicated to making sure the women and their children were able to rest in peace and safety. Thank you Wanda!
So – what is our next step? We are taking time to pray, re-structure and develop a strategic plan for the future of the SaltLight Center. Immediate priorities include becoming a non-profit incorporated organization, raising funds for a director and locating a new space. This and more needs to happen before we can open our doors to serve those in need during the next winter season.
We need your prayers for God’s wisdom and direction and please feel free to contact us for more information or if you would like to support this important work through a financial donation. God bless you and thank you for standing with us in making a difference in the lives of homeless women and children in Gwinnett County.
